JUDGE LONNIE COX INTRODUCTION
It’s my honor and privilege to be the judge of the 56th District Court. Before becoming Judge, I was an Assistant District Attorney for ten years and had the assignment, among others, of Chief Felony Prosecutor. During that time I had over 50 jury trials. But before that job I worked for the Lubrizol Corporation, first as an operator and later I worked my way up to Customer Service Manager for two Texas Plants. If you think that is an interesting career path, before my stint with Lubrizol, I was a musician with the Calgary Philharmonic, the Houston Symphony, the Houston Grand Opera and the Houston Ballet.
You may wonder how I moved from professional musician to plant operator to top prosecutor to judge—that was a product of hard work. While working full time at my job, I received my Masters of Business Administration in 1985 from HBU and my law degree from the University of Houston Law School in 1993. Can you image working all day at a job, raising a family and then going to graduate school and then law school at night? That is what I did. But there is more to a person than just hard work and perseverance. I am committed to the community. I cannot list here all of my community and professional activities but I will name a few. Besides playing in the Galveston Symphony and the Galveston Beach Band, I was recognized by MADD in 2001 for dedication and service. I have been the past president of Galveston Communities in Schools and a director of the Galveston County Employees Credit Union, and I also find time to teach Sunday school at the South Main Baptist Church.
I am married to Alison and the proud father of six children and the delighted grandfather of six grandchildren. Life experiences have taught me to be fair and courteous to all people, especially during the stress of legal proceedings. My experiences in court have shown me how to effectively move cases and eliminate delayed justice. My involvement in the community tells me every day how we must all work together for a safer community. Please join me in these goals of efficient justice, fairness to all concerned, and keeping our community safe by supporting me in my re-election. Thank you.
